I don’t have a whole lot to say about this lipstick. I picked it up a couple of weeks ago because I’ve been loving wet n wild lately (as you might have noticed), but it serves as a reminder that sometimes a dollar doesn’t get you very much. Part of the problem was the color, which was a sort of nude champagne, and part of it was the sheerness. Except for a bit of shine and some sparkle, I could hardly tell I was wearing lipstick.
I think I might try this in a brighter or deeper color, to give it a fairer shake on that front. However, the worst thing about this was that it wore off as quickly as lip gloss. I had it on for maybe a couple of hours without eating, though I did have a Coke, and it was almost entirely gone. It also feels kind of thin and sticky and, well, cheap in a bad way. This is the sort of quality I would expect from something with Barbie or Hannah Montana on the package; in other words, it feels like pretend makeup for little girls.
It’s odd that wet n wild could get so much right with one lip color, and so much wrong with this one.

Maybelline Forever Metallic Lites in Spring Natural
What: Maybelline Forever Metallic Lites in Spring Natural
Where: Dollar Tree
Price: $1.00

This is another case of a discontinued lip shade finding its way into my hands. In this case, I found it at Dollar Tree instead of Big Lots.
The color is a shimmery pinkish-beige. It’s a slightly more exciting alternative to your usual nude lip, assuming of course that this shade approximates your lip tone. It happens to be an uncanny match for mine. It’s not too exiting for work or general daytime wear, however. The shimmer is subtle.
The shimmer is also the result of “unique micro-crystals,” which is Maybelline’s marketing speak for “horrible little specks of shiny grit.” Really, they feel terrible. It’s mainly noticeable when you press your lips together, so it’s not enough to make me throw this away, but it’s enough to drive me just a little crazy.
Texture issues aside, my main problem with this is the lack of staying power. A light lunch completely killed it. How could I tell it was gone if the lipstick matched my lips, you ask? I have a couple of freckles on my lips, and they serve as pretty good indicators. The more I can see my freckles, the less lipstick is left. I was in downtown Freckle City by noon.
This isn’t a very bad lipstick, but it’s not a very good one, either. I know Maybelline can do better than this.
