I don’t have a whole lot to say about this lipstick. I picked it up a couple of weeks ago because I’ve been loving wet n wild lately (as you might have noticed), but it serves as a reminder that sometimes a dollar doesn’t get you very much. Part of the problem was the color, which was a sort of nude champagne, and part of it was the sheerness. Except for a bit of shine and some sparkle, I could hardly tell I was wearing lipstick.
I think I might try this in a brighter or deeper color, to give it a fairer shake on that front. However, the worst thing about this was that it wore off as quickly as lip gloss. I had it on for maybe a couple of hours without eating, though I did have a Coke, and it was almost entirely gone. It also feels kind of thin and sticky and, well, cheap in a bad way. This is the sort of quality I would expect from something with Barbie or Hannah Montana on the package; in other words, it feels like pretend makeup for little girls.
It’s odd that wet n wild could get so much right with one lip color, and so much wrong with this one.

e.l.f. Therapeutic Conditioning Balm in Vanilla Crème
What: e.l.f. Therapeutic Conditioning Balm in Vanilla Crème
Where: K-Mart
Price: $1.00

Image from e.l.f..
I picked up this balm at the same time I got the e.l.f. elements compact from yesterday. This didn’t wow me as much, though.
It’s “infused” with shea butter and vitamins A and E, and smells not unpleasantly like a vanilla-scented candle. It’s a very soothing smell, I’ll give it that. I can’t think what it reminds me of, but it must be something I liked very much as a child.
The lip balm also does a good job of moisturizing the lips. It has decent staying power, too. I’m a chronic re-applier, even when it’s not necessary, but I restrained myself for a whole two hours and this was going strong.
My only problem here is the texture. It feels thin and greasy, and it doesn’t improve even after some of it gets absorbed into the skin. It’s the second-greasiest lip balm I’ve ever owned (after the Kiss My Face Strawberry Lip Balm), and I have owned a lot of lip balms. I’m not quite at Confessions of a Balmaholic levels, but I’m working on it. I’m not sure if the texture is a complete deal breaker for me or not. I mean, I came to love that Kiss My Face balm until it was tragically lost to the dryer.
Bottom line, I guess, is try this only if you aren’t bothered by greasy lips and aren’t going to be kissing anyone for the next several hours. Unless, of course, your paramour likes secondhand balm all over his or her face.

e.l.f. elements Custom Compact
What: e.l.f. elements Custom Compact with Custom Eye Colors in Golden Glow, Moondust, Mocha, and Sage.
Where: K-Mart
Price: $1.00 each for compact and four eye colors

I’ve been wanting to try out e.l.f. for a while, to see if they’re as awesome for the price as everyone says. Finally, I found a K-Mart around here that carried it. (Though I almost didn’t find them. For some reason, K-Mart puts their cosmetics in the accessories section, not Health and Beauty. I hadn’t been in one since before Sears bought them, so I didn’t know this.)
First, I love the idea of this. I hate buying a compact of eyeshadow and only using a color or two out of it. (Note: e.l.f. makes lip colors and blush to go in the compact, as well. My K-Mart just happened to only have eyeshadow.)
Luckily, the execution is as great as the concept. The makeup fits nicely in the compact (which comes with an unexpectedly huge mirror), but it comes out pretty easily if you want to swap them out. The compact isn’t flimsy, either, though I was afraid it would be. It comes with an applicator with a sponge-tip at one end and brush at the other.
I was suitably impressed with the makeup itself. The eyeshadows are as highly pigmented as any other powder eyeshadow I’ve tried, and they go on smoothly. They’re very blendable, and I quite like the colors. (I tend towards earth tones, but e.l.f. has more than that to choose from.) The colors I chose are as follows, clockwise from the top: Moondust, Golden Glow, Mocha, and Sage.
The most fun part about this compact is choosing what goes in it. I’m going to get my hands on some of the lip color and blush to try them out, too.
